The Moringa Tree, called “nebedaye” in several African languages, was first discovered around 2000 BCE. The name means “never die.” It has been identified by 400 different names: a multipurpose tree cultivated throughout the tropics and marketed as a dietary supplement, health food or source for herbalism practices. It is believed that the Moringa tree originated in northern India and was being used in Indian medicine around 5,000 years ago, and there are also accounts of it being utilized by the ancient Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians.
Moringa leaves are the most nutritious part of this versatile plant. Moringa is truly a miracle plant and a divine gift for the nourishing & healing of man. The Scientific name of Moringa tree is Moringa Oleifera. Moringa leaves are an important source of vitamin B6, vitamin C, pro-vitamin A as betacarotene, magnesium, and protein among other nutrients [Studied in the laboratory by the USDA (United States Dept of Agriculture)]. Moringa seed pods can be boiled and used as an ingredient in regional soups and curries. The seeds are also pressed to extract their essential oil which is known as Ben oil. Moringa flowers are also edible; it tasted like mushrooms when cooked. Moringa was used extensively in Ayurveda, where virtually all parts were considered useful with a plethora of beneficial attributes. It was employed to support digestion, spleen and eye health, as a cooking additive, and in many other ways.
